With fifteen of the freshest new talents on display – a third of whom are UAL alumni – 2013’s Bright Young Things offers its most diverse showcase yet, with their edit of the UK’s most exciting young designers on show in the store’s iconic windows and at a special pop-up shop.
First up is Sadie Williams, a 2013 Central Saint Martins MA Fashion graduate, who was chosen for her standout MA collection. Sadie has designed her own window display and her bold colour-blocked collection of metallic mini dresses and graphic sweatshirts is available to purchase in store.
Fellow CSM alumna Katy Beveridge, who graduated with first class honours from BA Graphic Design, Moving Image last year, is exhibiting her irreverent animations. Katy comments on her animation style, explaining: “Humour is the best way to disarm people, to get them to open up to an unfamiliar idea.” Her work has already been picked up by The Discovery Channel and in the Huffington Post.
Three LCF graduates made it through to the final cut: MA Digital Fashion alumna Cari Marsden, whose CO-LAB graduate project created collaborative design products; Sarah Williams‘ MA Fashion Artefact whose work sees traditional leather goods created with heritage skills metamorphose into super modern shapes and functionality; and BA Fashion Design Technology grad Yeashin Kim whose womenswear bursts off the catwalk and into store in super sweet story book styles.
This year’s Bright Young Things will be in store and on display until 10 October at Selfridges London flagship store on Oxford Street.
