This week sees the opening of the seventh annual Designs of the Year exhibition at The Design Museum. With 76 exhibits competing for the Awards, the show spans the best in contemporary global architecture, digital, fashion, furniture, graphic, product and transport design. All the designs have been nominated and selected on a brief to be innovative and one of a kind, with the winners of this year’s awards chosen by a panel led by UAL practitioner in residence Ekow Eshun.
Among the line up for 2014 are numerous UAL luminaries: recent CSM MA Fashion graduate Sadie Williams’s metallic dress designs, UAL honorary fellow Stephen Jones’ A Magazine, Central Saint Martins milinary graduate Ronaldo Fraga’s abayas, new food and culture magazine The Gourmand edited and art directed by Central Saint Martins alumnus and UAL lecturer David Lane, Sidekick Creatives co-founded by CSM graduates Anisha Peplinski (MA Communication Design) and Oscar Lhermitte, (BA Product Design), the Pet Lamp designed by product design graduate Alvaro Catalan De Ocon, MA Narrative Environments lecturer Inigo Minns’ Risk Centre, M to M of M/M (Paris) designed by BA Graphic Design alumni Paul Neale, Huw Morgan, Robbie Mahoney, Stephanne Curran, Camberwell BA 3D Design graduate Daniel McMahonwho codesigned the Plume Mudguard,and LCC MA Graphic Branding and Identity alumnus Edouard Pecher’s Modern Practice.
