SIDSY Design Competition

 

 ”Sorry I didn’t see you” (SIDSY) is a common excuse used when drivers fail to see cyclists.  Transport for London (TfL) are inviting designers to address this issue and re-design the traditional reflective vest- can you create a new accessory that is fashionable yet still maintains the visibility of the traditional reflective vest toother road users?

Showcase your work at Pulse London

Now in its 6th year, CSM Innovation in conjunction with Clarion Events, are offering students and graduates the opportunity to showcase their work at the Launchpad area at Pulse London, 10-12 June 2012. Giving you the chance to sell your work and expand your business contacts directly with both major and independent retailers from all over Europe at this exciting Trade Show.

This year, CSM Innovation and SEE will be collaborating to support promising University of the Arts London student and graduate enterprises, and offer a highly discounted opportunity to exhibit on the CSM Selected group stand.
As part of this opportunity those who are selected to take part in the trade show will also receive free tuition and advice on how to exhibit, and sell their work as well as manage a stand including the process of taking orders and basic accounts management.

This opportunity is opened to all UAL students and graduates. Products can include:

ALTO Competition

University of the Arts London is developing a digital platform in which students and staff can create, collaborate and share teaching and learning materials.

The Arts Learning Teaching Online (ALTO) initiative is an online open resource available to use by all students during your studies.

ALTO is designed to help you share your working processes, and collaborate with staff, fellow students and the wider community using Open Education Resources (OERs).

For your chance to win one of three prizes of £1,000 each here is what you have to do -

ALTO are looking for students from across UAL to respond to a brief to produce a piece of artwork which communicates the aims of the Open Education Resource (OER) projects, and document your creative process using www.process.arts.ac.uk.

MIRAJ present: CCW Graduate School Writing Prize

Moving Image Review & Art Journal (MIRAJ)* present: CCW Graduate School Writing Prize

All CCW (Camberwell, Chelsea, Wimbledon Colleges of Art and Design) students are invited to submit a 1500‐word review of any current moving image art
exhibition, screening, conference or publication, originating in the UK or abroad. The review should
propose a central idea or thesis argued through a discussion of the work or book under review.

The best article will be published in the reviews section of MIRAJ and the winner will receive a prize
of £500 to be presented at the launch of the journal in the New Year.

Submissions will be judged by a distinguished panel including Professor David Garcia, Dean of CCW
Graduate School and Enterprise Development and Pryle Behrman, Reviews Editor of MIRAJ.

Creative Industries BootCamp

Launched by the Mayor’s Office in Spring 2011, and subsidised by leading Industry partners, Creative Industries BootCamp is a one of a kind opportunity to kick-start your entrepreneurial journey.

The BootCamp is an intensive 5-day programme run over 4 weeks that will help develop your skills and knowledge base and assist you in making key industry contacts. The course will involve sector specific trainers, and industry professionals who have set up successful creative businesses. Specific industry speakers will also be part of the programme, helping participants to gain a real insider understanding of the sector.

The course is run by the Central Saint Martins Innovation Centre, which has a strong track record for delivering enterprise training for recent graduates in the creative sector, using its network of successful alumni and industry contacts. Previous programmes have involved companies including Liberty, We Made This, Think Public, Sugru and the Pentland Group.

Who’s it For?

This is for graduates interested in learning the skills needed to thrive in the design industry as a freelancer or starting up a new creative business. Early stage start-ups would also benefit from the programme. The programme is suitable for all graduates including 3D design; product design; jewellery design; experience design; graphic and communication design; textile design; social innovation and service design.

Programme

  1. Exploring your vision and mapping your journey to success
  2. Planning as a creative process, effective action planning, and the basics of writing a business plan
  3. Developing effective networks, marketing yourself and your business
  4. Pitching and preparing for presentations
  5. Final presentations to an industry panel followed by a networking event

Dates

  • Starting 29 September 2011
  • 5-day programme running over 4 weeks
