Axel Hoedt – Fastnacht

Open: Friday 17 September – Sunday 14 November 2010
Location: The Fashion Space Gallery, John Prince’s St

The Fashion Space Gallery at London College of Fashion is proud to announce Fastnacht, a photographic project by London based German photographer Axel Hoedt, whose work has been chosen to re-launch a dynamic programme of exhibitions at the Fashion Space Gallery.

Fastnacht, literally meaning ‘the night before fasting,’ is an annual pre-lenten carnival held in Germany. Posing compelling questions about studio photography and the use of costume in relation to cultural identity, these images resonate with the work of twentieth century masters Richard Avedon and Irving Penn both of whom made extended portrait series in portable studios – a technique which Hoedt has employed for this body of work.

To coincide with the new programme of exhibitions the Fashion Space Gallery has devised a new logo, instigated new Saturday opening times and launched a dedicated site online.
